6 daily habits for success

6 Daily Habits for Success //
6 Daily Habits for Success //

I’m the first to admit that some of my habits have not always been entirely conducive to being productive. Ok, let’s be honest more than some - a lot!

And when I started working for myself these habits became even more pronounced because suddenly I didn’t have the luxury of a regular pay check, I was in charge of making it happen. So I started making some tweaks + became obsessed with productivity hacks and morning routines - all with the intention of getting sh*t done + how to keep and stay motivated.

What I came to realise is that our daily habits can make or break our success and if we don’t recognise the bad habits holding us back from achieving our goals, then we’re setting ourselves up for failure before we’ve even begun.

It’s easy to fall into the trap of bad habits, because as humans, we are naturally creatures of habit.

How many times have you done something just out of habit?

You may not even question your behaviour because it is so ingrained in you.

The trick is to recognise the habit and take action to rectify it by establishing good habits to replace them.

It takes conscious effort to be disciplined but by breaking those bad habits + instead setting yourself up with good habits you are laying the foundation and path to your success.

I’ve experimented with various habits and with repeated tried and tested behaviour I’ve identified 6 that I now use on a daily basis - I call these my Daily Habits for Success + have them printed out on my vision board as a constant reminder.

I’m a big believer in keeping things simple and as uncomplicated as possible which is why I limited the habits to 6.

1. Establish a routine + schedule your time.

Getting yourself into a productive routine is essential. Do what works for you - no two people’s will be the same - but creating good habits around how you set up your day and divide your day into productive time vs. play vs. relaxation vs. exercise will ensure that you are scheduling your most important work to be done.

For example, say you working your full time job but setting your business up on the side. It is very easy to come home from work and sit in front of the television or go out with your friends.

But establishing a routine and creating a habit for you to work on your goals at a regular time each day or week will see you reaching your goals a lot faster than if you were trying haphazardly to ‘find time’ to work on your goals - we both know this won’t happen!

2. Keep your daily to-do list small.

Limit your goals to only 3 per day. This not only gives you laser sharp focus for each day but intentionally is to stop you from feeling overwhelmed. When our to-do lists are long and seemingly never-ending we are less inclined to want to look at them. Keeping them short and succinct will mean you can achieve what you set out to each day and we all know that feeling of accomplishment by being able to cross things off that list!

3. Stick to 60 minute work sessions.

Commit to focusing on your task at hand for 60 minutes. Resist the urge to get distracted during this period and remove everything that is likely to divert your attention - including your mobile phone and social media. Set a stop watch and once the 60 minutes are up, reward yourself by taking a break, surf the net or get a cup of tea.

4. Always finish your to-do list.

Following on from your daily to-do list - get into the habit of finishing every single item. Sure, there are exceptions to this rule for when it may no be possible, but for the most part by setting yourself with this standard you’re always going to do what you’ve set out to.

5. Keep a gratitude journal + write down three things you’re thankful for at the end of each day.

When we’re knee-deep chasing a dream that feels so far off in the distance, it’s easy to lose perspective, motivation + start feeling down-right sorry for yourself. Taking 5 minutes at the end of each day to write out what you’re grateful is an instant mood booster and will give you time to reflect and appreciate how awesome life really is in the present moment.

6. Go to bed early + wake up at the same time every day.

Sleep is underrated, but completely mandatory so please don’t skimp on it if you want to increase your chances of being successful. Our bodies need 7-9 hours of quality sleep each night to rest and restore properly. Oh and did I mention that lack of sleep is a creativity killer? Not worth skimping on if you want to keep those creative juices flowing!

There you have it - my 6 daily habits for success.

Tell me - are you  a creature of habit? What's your best tip for getting sh*t done?
