It’s hard to feel motivated when our life just feels like one giant to-do list of obligations.
Living a joy-filled life is about going beyond our to-do lists and focusing on things that bring us happiness and making sure these are part of our daily life.
Life is made up of moments and the more joy we invite in, the more we experience abundance and alignment as we’re choosing to live in our natural state of bliss.
Since starting back full-time work I’ve been feeling the pressure of mounting to-do lists and the constant feeling as though I 'don’t have enough time'.
In a way it’s been good as it’s meant I’ve had to be more discerning with my time, getting super disciplined (still a work in progress) and making every moment count.
Thing is, when life just becomes just about getting stuff done it feels it feels constricted, stressful, joy-less and ultimately dis-empowering because we’re not living the way we truly want to.
Can you relate to this?
Getting out of this rut involves making edits to our life and consciously choosing to focus your energy on things that matter and bring us joy.
Here are 3 simple steps to begin the editing process and move forward with a fresh perspective and renewed motivation for designing you joy-filled life.
1. write down your top priorities.
Write down everything in your life right now that is taking up space.
Here's the thing: trying to do all of the things is a sure fire way to add unnecessary stress and anxiety into your life.
Our lives are increasingly complex - mainly due to the insane number of choices we have in our life.
This is a good thing because this amount of choice is incredibly empowering, but on the flip side, it also means we need to make some hard choices about what we can add into our life.
Now go back through the list and circle your top 3-5 priorities.
Read: The art of un-doing.
2. Write down 5 things that bring you joy.
These may be small things or big things - I call these 1-Ups (you know like in Mario Bros?!).
Some of favorite 1-ups are lots of laughter; soaking up the sun and in nature; practicing yoga; spending time with my love; reading my favorite book; diffusing and adoring myself in beautiful essential oils.
Make the commitment to add in at least one of these 1-Ups into each day. On extra stressful days you may need to add more.
These 1-Ups are designed to energize and re-charge you - while bringing moments of joy into your day.
Being intentional about creating this space for yourself will ensure you're intentionally fueling your mind and soul with things that make you feel good - and this does wonders for your overall well-being and happiness.
3. Fill up your cup with what is most important to you.
Go back to your list of top priorities and list of 1-Ups.
Now, imagine your life as an empty cup that you can only put things into that are truly important and that support you to create the kind of life you're truly excited to be living.
What would you fill your cup up with? What needs to go?
Set an intention to only spend your time on what matters most to you and what is most aligned with the vision you have for your life.
We will always be busy and there will always be things we want to do; but making it your goal to be intentional about your days - both now and in the future - is the key to experiencing joy everyday.
